It has been my experience that Lansinoh is a nursing mom's best friend. The products that I have tried - the contoured nursing pads and their HPA Brand Lanolin - are top-notch and deliver what is promised. I'll talk about the nursing pads in another post. Right now, I want to tell you about the lanolin.
I recently had my fourth baby. I've nursed all of my babies. My first child lost nearly a pound after birth, and I ended up having to supplement nursing with formula feedings. We persevered, however, and she was completely weaned only at 13 months. Breastfeeding has gotten easier with each child, and Buddy Bear and I are doing great after only two weeks.
One thing that has not gotten easier with each child is the adjustment and toughening up period. Buddy Bear nursed well from the beginning, but I had more problems with cracked and bleeding nipples than I had when I nursed the other children. In desperation, I bought Lansinoh's Lanolin.
What a relief! The instant I used it, the pain abated, and by the next nursing session, I could tell that healing had already begun to take place. Wow! Now that is a product that delivers!
What is lanolin, anyway? Lanolin is the greasy wax-like substance produced by wool-bearing animals. Lansinoh Lanolin uses medical-grade lanolin that is subsequently refined to a pure, hypo-allergenic state. Pure lanolin is not harmful to your baby and does not need to be removed prior to breastfeeding.
Lansinoh's HPA Brand Lanolin can be used before birth as preparation for breastfeeding and can of course be used after birth as both a preventative and a remedial measure. It can be purchased through retailers, such as Wal-Mart, or online.
In case you can't tell, I highly recommend Lansinoh's HPA Brand Lanolin.
